First of all in my opinion, I think is totally unnecessary to buy any kitesurfing equipment if you are a beginner on this sport. What I recomend you though is to take kitesurfing lessons with a quilified instructor first then you go and buy equipments.

Most instructors provide the necessary kitesurfing equipment. They can recommend the ideal kitesurfing equipment for you, because they know what is your height, weight, where and conditions of sail that you’re dealing with. But this doesn’t mean that we can’t offer some suggestions. Here are some FAQs that may help you choose what’s the ideal kitesurfing equipment for you:

What type of kite is the best? Foil, inflatable or hybrid?

Hybrid kite is the most recommended for beginners. They have two fabric layers, similar to the foil and they do not possess inflatable. Use the system of profile of double surface together with the frontal format in bow, eliminating the necessity of the a thousand lines of the muzzle. Great for kitesurfing beginners.

What kite size is right for me?

Kitesurfing beginners do not have notion of the force and power that a kite develops. In the first year of kitesurfing, even after finishing the course, it is indicated that the novices use kites smaller than 12. The worse accidents in kitesurf happened with inexperienced people trying to control big kites without any notion. So, it’s always good to follow all kitesurfing safety rules for your own security.

Should I buy two lines or four lines?

The two lines kite is much simpler to control and easy of relaunch being indicated for beginners. The purchase of a kite four lines can be made after completed the kitesurfing lesson. In most cases people buy the kite with 2 lines that can be converted to four lines.

What type of board should I buy?

Directional Board is most recommended. They are similar to surfboard, ideal in lighter to moderate winds (recommended for beginners) where you want a board that is responsive as there is less pull in the kite and your only power is generated by the wave. They possess two or three equal handles for the feet and keels similar to surfboard.

It’s always good to remember that all information provided in this blog doesn’t apply to everyone. Results may vary.

There are four types of boars that can be used to practice kitesurfing, which are: directional, hybrids, wakeboard, and skim-type boards. Here are the three most used boards for Kitesurfing:

Directional Surf-style Boards
They are very similar to surfboard. They possess two or three equal handles for the feet and keels similar to surfboard.

Advantages: In large size, they possess greater fluctuation, where it facilitates the use in weakker winds. They are better to surf on the waves. As they possess nose and rabeta with keels, they are the best ones for high jumps in kitesurfing.

Disadvantages: In stronger winds, the large ones are more difficult hold in the edge of the water.

Hybrids or Bidirectional-style Board
Normally they have 2 handles, but they can be used with wakeboard’s boots or sandals. They do not have front or back. Both the sides are equal. They possess lesser keels then the directional ones. Great chioce for kitesurfing beginners.

Advantages: They are more agile to change itself of direction.

Disadvantages: In stronger winds, becomes more difficult to stay on the edge of the water. In weak winds they are a little more difficult to ride.

Wakeboard-style Boards
They are small with very little fluctuation and no keels. They can have boots (more used) or sandals.

Advantages: For being light and small its aerodynamics facilitates to the jumps and turns. In strong winds they are good to stand up, therefore they hold well in the edge of the water.

Disadvantages: For almost not floating, they need stronger winds. In weak winds, they are more difficult to stay up. They are not ideal to surf in waves. When the kite falls in the water the kitesurfing athlete cannot use the feet to swim (it will be using boots). With boots it is also difficult to enter in the water alone.

The Kite is an important piece of kitesurfing, if not the mais one. The kite is connected to a resistant handle that is imprisoned to the brace. The control, stability and maneuvers is made through the bar. But the question is which type of kite is better for kitesurfing?

There are three types of kites:

Foil Kites
They are not inflatable, they possess two fabric layers (upper/lower surface) and is divided by some cells, that if full of air (for the wind, through frontals valves) and form its profile. They possess a complex system of muzzle. Since they are the more difficult to overcome from the water, it’s more used in earth and mountain.

Advantages: They have good traction. Some models are mounted quickly. Generally the impacts are more resistant, but also they can blow up, tearing the fabric. They are easy to get back on the air, which is good for kitesurfing.

Disadvantages: If you leave them in the water for couple minutes, they can get full of water and hardly they can get back on the air. The many lines of the muzzle can be rolled, mainly in inexperienced hands. Depending on the model they delay much time to put back inside the bag. If badly it will be regulated or to occur a small desilingment in the muzzle, the kite loses the profile and the flight is horrible.

Inflatable Kites
These kites are most used at the moment, kitesurfing users love this type, since they are faster at the time of overcoming them from the water, and facilitate better jumps. They possess only one fabric surface, inflatable splices that the keeps steady aerofoil, in format of an arc, which keeps them above the water and easy to get back on the air.

Advantages: They have good capacity of calculates. They are sufficiently steady and they possess much power to jump and to keep the block time. They allow you to use in ample bands of wind (4 lines models). They can be long in the water and still be easy to get back on the air.

Hybrid or Arch Kites
They have two fabric layers, similar to the foil and they do not possess inflatable. Use the system of profile of double surface together with the frontal format in bow, eliminating the necessity of the a thousand lines of the muzzle. Great for kitesurfing beginners.
